The Gjorkan Civil War was a major civil armed conflict within Gjorka which lasted from January 2, 1871, to September 30, 1877.

The war was fought between, Kaiserrists, Alliance of the Republicans and the Labour Unions, and the Nicholists, and Gjorkan Armed Forces. The GJorka Civil War was the second deadliest armed conflict in Gjorkan History, only behind the Conquest of Gjorka by the Northern Tribes which left almost 25,000,000 dead. The Civil War happened after Queen Hugo, of Kane VII , gave birth to twins. There were only four doctors in the room and 2 of them said Kaiser XXII, and the other two said Nicholas III. The Eldest Male is the heir in Gjorkan Succession. Kane VII ignored the issue, and banned any speak of which of his children came first. With his death in 1856, the problem was brought to the forefront. After many months of bickering, Kaiser XXII asked the military to remove Nicholas III. However, he fled before the Military could catch him. He formed a rebellion in Xavian City uniting with the Republicans and the Labour Unions. The Military was very split, and many units had members deserting to both sides. The war lasted fpr five years and ended with the Siege of Xavian City. Nicholas III was killed by a stray artillery shell, and his other top advisors were executed.

Both sides committed mass atrocities. During the Siege of Xavian City. Dead Bodies were commonly shot into the city as biological warfare. The Nicholists held a policy of no POWS and would execute any captured units. After the War, the Kaiserrists banned many leftist parties, and executed hundreds of thousands. Kaiserrin, a city on the southeastern shore, was completely wiped off the map and is still not inhabited today.

Background

Eldest Dispute

Queen Hugo gave birth to twins in 1836. She requested that only four doctors be present. It is heavily disputed who was actually the first. There are little documents to go off of. Two Doctors, Cuvarin and Creeper said that Nicholas III was born first. Doctors Vevian and Nathansingle said Kaiser XXII was born first. Their mother was unconscious and did not witness the event. King Kane VII after learning of the dispute banned all talk of it. He ordered that anyone who spoke of the dispute would be executed immediately. Both brothers grew up extremely close and had no idea of the dispute. However, their father died in January of 1871. In his Posthumous Royal Decree, he said that the brothers must work out a solution, and decide who ascends to the throne

Events leading up the war

The negotiations between the two brothers began smoothly. It seemed both brothers were agreeing with each other, and that a solution would be reached within the next month. However, the negotiations quickly broke down after that. Nicholas III argued that they should hold an election every three years on who of them two should be king. Each of their sons would continue the elections, and so on. However Kaiser XXII completely despised the idea. Any idea of democracy was treason to him. He proposed a dual monarchy with each of them having affairs over a certain area of government. However Nicholas III didn't like the plan as he believed it would be used to give him a lesser role in Government. The two brothers argued back, and forth on the issue. Some Arguments go so heated that guards had to break them up. It was clear in Early September that the meetings were going nowhere. A document about each brother's position was leaked to the public after an advisor resigned. Trade Unions, which had been rising in the popularity, and Republicans, also rising in popularity, immediately rushed to the support of Nicholas III. Many younger people also supported him. While the Business World, and some princes supported Kaiser XXII.

The Attempted Coup

Kaiser XXIII began contacting the Military in September. Much higher up officials were supportive of [[Kaiser XXII], and wished to see him on the throne. They organized a plan to oust Nicholas III. It was to take place at another scheduled meeting on September 29th. Nicholas III would enter the room alone, and then he would be seized by guards/ He would be taken away and shot. While they claimed that he had fallen down the stairs, and broke his neck. The day of September 29th arrived. It seemed everything was going on without a hitch, but Nicholas III refused to enter the room without Kaiser XXII. Eventually, he relented and walked in with his brother. The meeting began as normal, but as the conversation became more argumentative. Kaiser XXII stood up, and proclaimed that Nicholas III was no longer needed. He then looked at the guards to take him away. However, a shirt error had been made. The guards who were in on the plot were having a lunch break. These guards looked at Kaiser XXII confused. Nicholas III realizing what his brother was trying to do, exited the building immediately. However, three guards were quick to follow him. Outside were reporters eager to hear the news. Nicholas III ran down the steps, with several guards chasing after him. One of the guards mistakenly heard the order "Don't Shoot" as "Shoot." He fired on Nicholas III. He dodged the bullets and successfully was transported away in horse and carriage. The News broke wild with the wind of attempted assassination. Nicholas III fled to Xavian City. On September 30th, Xavier XXII declared himself the sole King of Gjorka. In response, Nicholas III made the same response. This is regarded as the official start of the war.

Early War

Sides Form

After Nicholas III fled to Xavian City he was soon joined by the Xavian National Gaurd and the City Militia. Kaiser XXII sent the 1st Army, and the 3rd Dragoons to quickly crush them. However, the Military Command was fractured. Several Officers were deserting to Nicholas III, and many more soldiers. The 19th Army Group quickly railed to defend Xavian from the 1st. The First Battle of the War Began as the Xavian National Guard, the 19th Army, and the City Militia marched to face the 1st Army and the 3rd Dragoons. The Two Armies clashed at the Battle of Marcos Ridge. The Battle was a close Nicholist victory after the 3rd Dragoons were wiped out after an unsuccessful charge. The 1st Army retreated back to Gjorka City. The City of Jroka declared their support for Nicholas III while Hokia voted unanimously to re-affirm their loyalty to Kaiser XXII. Many Liberal People supported Nicholat III, and many Conservatives supported Kasier XXII. All over the country towns next to each other supported different kings. Many families split over who should be king. This would be the deadliest civil war in Gjorkan History.
