Afonso I of Coventrey (22 July 1163 - 10 November 1237) known to history as the Conqueror (Coventrian: O Conquistador), the Founder (O Fundador) or the Great (O Grande) was the first king of an independent Coventrey. He achieved independence for Coventrey in 1190, then little more then a vassal state to the larger kingdom of PLACENAME. During his reign of over four decades he firmly established Coventrey has an independent kingdom and doubled its size through successive wars of conquest.

At the age of seventeen he succeeded his father as Count of Coventry, and High Steward of Coventrey in 1180, ten years later he renounced suzerainty of the Kingdom of PLACENAME and established the independent Kingdom of Coventrey after winning a monumental battle at Santiago
