Lecs(Lec: lekkëbi, pronounced /lek.kə.bi/) are an ethnic group centred around central South Conitia, most commonly referred to as Lecistania. The Lec people are the predominant ethnic group in Lecistan and make up a significant minority in the bordering nation of Odissia. Due to a policy of colonization and assimilation between the 17th and 20th centuries by the Kingdom of Odissia, it is only recently that Lecs, especially those in Odissia, have reemerged as a significant minority outside of Lecistan.
Cultural groups
Lecs are split into various cultural and linguistic dialects, often due to isolation from other members, religious or cultural differences, and the history of the reion in which they inhabit.
- Upper Rzëszese (Lec: górnorzëszczi, also referred to as Plains Lecs) are those living on or south of the Rzészù river. They speak the Upper Rzëszù dialect, and are the more numerous group in Lecistan. They are prevalent in central and southern Lecistan, part of southern Filimons, and scattered around eastern Odissia.
- Lower Rzëszese (Lec: dólnorzëszczi, also referred to as Mountaineers) are those living north of the Rzészù river. They speak the Lower Rzëszù dialect, and are the second-largest cultural group in Lecistan. They are prevalent in northern Lecistan and parts of southern Masseau.
- Leco-Odissians (Lec: lekkëbsczô-łôtesczi, also referred to as Odissian Lecs or Western Lecs) are those living primarily in Odissia, Osonia, and parts of Filimons. They speak the Leco-Odissian dialect, and are the largest cultural group outside of Lecistan.
- Lekezish (Lec: lekérzidzczi) are Lecs who primarily follow the Jewish faith. Historically, they have resided mainly in cities, acting as traders and artisans. They make up three percent of the population of Lecistan and a sizable minority in the Odissian Jewish population.
