The Great Diet of the Kingdom of Lainan most often called Dai Hoi or Great Diet is the unicameral 403-member legislature of Lainan. The Dai Hoi is the weilder of highest authority in Lainan and is not subservient or dependent on the monarch who servers the role of ceremonial head of state. Elections to the Dai Hoi are held every four years on the basis of proportinal representation with an extraordinally high 12% election treshold meaning that unless a political party is able to gain over 12% of the vote, they cannot serve in the Dai Hoi.

Before the Dai Hoi, the monarch of Lainan was the ultimate authority in the country, however in 1936 following the first democratic elections in Lainese history, the Dai Hoi declared itself the "wielder of highest authority in the Kingdom of Lainan" which effectively made the monarchy only symbolic. The Dai Hoi appoints both the Premier and the Monarch of Lainan the later of which is appointed to serve a life-long term. Over time the Dai Hoi has transfered many of the symbolic duties of the monarch to the premier such as receiving foreign dignitaries.
