With the collapse of the Empire of Exponent, the Vektor Corporation quickly positioned itself to be the primary arms supplier to the newly formed Blackhelm Confederacy. In 1997, the development of the new universal machine gun had begun, and by 1999, the Vektor SS-77 had been churned out and distributed to the Confederate Army. The weapon receives its name from the two designers, Silverhide and Silkshirt, and it was the 77th model they produced together.
The SS-77 is a gas operated, belt feed weapon that fires from open bolt and has breech block swinging sideways to lock into the receiver wall. It has a quick changeable barrel with external longitudal flutes to reduce weight and improve cooling. The SS-77 was developed to fire 7.62mmx39mm ammunition.
