The Grand Master of the Order of Saint Joseph is the leader of the Catholic military order of the same name. The first holder was Saint Avienus, a Latin crusader, after receiving a papal charter for the charity operating near the Cathedral of the Holy Sepulchre. There have been 65 grand masters over 700 years, with numerous vacancies the longest lasting nearly thirty years. The current Grand Master is Jean de Scaliger, who was appointed in 2003.
