The Union of Citizens for the Federal Welfare, often abbreviated as The Union or UCFW, is a left-wing political party in the Mannatiuan Free Association of Communes. While the officially stated policy aim of the party is "Anarchy without Ideology", the party can be best described as a coalition of multiple stripes of anarchists, democratic socialists, trade unionists, left-libertarians, minority rights advocates, and greens. While officially a singular entity, and the sole party extant on the national level in Mannatiua, the Union operates similarly to a list party that is seen in other more conventional parliamentary democracies, with internal caucuses expressing a high degree of political autonomy from one another.

The Union was founded in 1942 in the post-Terror Reform Era in Mannatiuan politics, in order to bring together the multiple political factions of the revolution under one umbrella organization. The leadership in the early phase of its history was comprised of the Mutualist contingent of the League of Vestric Anarchists in Mannatiua, including Ansar Lohmus, First Commissar at the time. Lohmus' tenure at the helm of Mannatiuan government lasted from 1942 following the death of his predecessor Noodinikwe Valbe until 1966, following Lohmus' retirement from politics, and was defined by a focus on internal development, and often, a stance of isolationism and strict neutrality in foreign affairs. After 1966, the Union chose to seek more international involvement, making overtures towards the Federal Socialist Republic. Hoping to position themselves as "the Other Left", both the FSR Politburo and the Union alike sought to benefit from their relationship in both Cold War power politics and economic and scientific development. As the FSR broke down in the late 1980s, the Union sought a more diplomatically neutral, yet still activist policy, focusing more on indigenous and minority rights, as well as their intersection with ecological concerns. Without a world power on their side, the Union generally has chosen a non-combative approach to foreign policy, with politics more focused on internal economics and social welfare.
