Siege is a first- and third-person shooter video game franchise developed by Prime Meridian Studios and published by Anvilstrike Interactive. First released in 2007, the series primarily focuses on the Maracaibean theatre of the Pan-Septentrion War. In 2019, the franchise also included a third game covering a modern invasion of the country by a hypothetical enemy. The series was birthed out of a loose adaptation of the eponymous film about the Siege of Maracaibo City, but decisions in development for the first game made the writing independent of the cinematic plotline.

The series is incredibly popular among the gaming community in Maracaibo and has sold millions of copies within the country, and worldwide.

The War Department of the Allied Nations provided funding for the series from the second one on, which is a point of criticism in some circles.

Siege

Siege is a 2007 third-person shooter developed and published by Prime Meridian Studios. It is the first installment of the franchise, internationally released on December 8, 2007 for PC. The game simulates infantry, combined arms, and partisan tactics of the Pan-Septentrion War. The game utilizes the Apoapsis game engine, previously used for such titles as The Condor and Marine Assault 2.

Gameplay

A third person shooter with an over-the-shoulder camera, the game features a robust heads-up display, and utilizes traditional health points. Unlike other games of comparable era, there are no powerups or health pickups. The player, in most missions, is part of a squad of infantry, and is tasked with completing certain objectives. In addition to the health bar, the game also featured a "crippling" system, which simulates ailments based on the location on the body the enemy or player was hit. The player is allowed three weapons to carry at once, of any type. The game features voiceacted cutscenes and has a score executed by the Maracaibo Orchestra.

Multiplayer content includes both local and online play, with six classes to choose from. This "Civil War" gamemode pits color-swapped teams of six against each other in a battle arena, where each side attempts to control a single point on several different maps.

Plot

In Siege, the player takes the role of a fictional Republican soldier by the name of Jorge Nieves. The plot begins in 1944, and extends through early 1945. The player experiences the life of a Republican soldier during the height of the defensive war against the onslaught of Imperial Dayashina. The campaign includes missions at Sloane, Leon, and Maracaibo City.

Siege 2: No Pasaran

Siege 2: No Pasaran is a first-person shooter released on December 8, 2010. The game is the second installment in the Siege series, and features a purpose-built game engine, updated graphics, and a reworked combat system. The game also features the ability to play as Imperial forces in multiplayer mode.

Gameplay

The game changes the user interface from the previous game, and does away with an always-visible healthbar, in favor of adopting a trauma-based system with the screen reddening the closer to death the player is. The game also introduces healthpacks as an item. The player is also able to aim down sights and utilize bayonets. A novel, if controversial feature, is the addition of brutal "finisher moves", in which a player executes an enemy in a gruesome manner at melee range by utilizing a button prompt.

The game features combat in every arena of war; On land, in the air, and on the sea. There are vehicle sections on the ground, and aerial and naval on-rails sections.

Two separate multiplayer modes of "Squad" and "Offensive" also make their debut in the game. In "Squad", teams of six each compete to achieve control of an area, with nine soldier classes being chosen. Unlike the previous game, Imperial forces are also playable, complete with their own classes of soldier. In "Offensive", teams of up to 30 may choose between these nine classes and compete on capturing command zones. Each player has the opportunity to gain enough points to enter the battlefield as a "hero"; a recognizable, historical figure from the Pan-Septentrion War with special abilities and increased health.

Campaign

Siege 2 features several campaigns across different characters. Some of these campaigns involve historical missions, such as Maria Almodovar's assault on Imperial lines in 1945.
