The Volk Class Destroyer was originally intended to be a pursuit vessel that could chase down enemy vessel and destroy them with its 127mm gun. However with the adoption of the MK3 Vertical launch system the destroyers were able to fullfill many of the same traditional roles of Guided missile cruisers. While the Volk carries fewer missiles than other ships it's speed and limited target profile make it a competent combatant.
