Klom
The Klom was a service shield for the Assumptarian Cleamha. The shield was designed in the 10th century and was discontinued after northern colonialism.
Design
The Klom had multiple designs which granted the shields and by extension the Cleamha and general better tactial advantages.
The Shield's Double Usage
The Klom is unique in that it can serve multipe purposes. The Klom normally acts for defensive purposes but due to a rise in the middle of the shield which comes to a sharp point, it can act as a batterring ram in case of a broken sword or a dire close combat situaition.
The Shield's Identification System
The shield contains a set of numbers and letters in order to help the Cleamha and their officers identify eachother quickly in a battlefield. The system is
-The numbers represent the soldier in a regiment i.e. the 25th soldier in a regiment would have 25 on their shield. Officers will always have 00 on their shield
-The first letter represents the last name of the Colonel in charge of the regiment.
-The second letter represents the type of warrior i.e. Knights would be represented by K
The artist's depiction of the Klom would be the 12th Knight of Colonel Artorius.
The Reasons of Klom Discontinuement
The Klom was discontinued for multiple reasons include tactical disadvantages and expenses
Disadvantages
Whilst the Klom was useful during the pre-colonization era of assumptarian history it proved very disadvantegeous against modern firearms such as the musket. One musket ball would've been able to completely shatter the wooden Klom.
It was also found that the Klom was growing useless in native combat as they were beginning to evolve more mobile warfare tactics whilst the Klom greatly slowed and reduced the mobility of the Cleamha.
Expenses
The multiple dyes used to make the shield were very expensive to produce and it was beginning to ruin Assumptaria's finances. The blue and black were very expensive and the large majorities used in the construction of the shields made the shields more expensive then it would've been if it were blank.
