Republic of Qûwåńâñį
The Republic of Quwanani is a large, cultured nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, public floggings, and frequent executions. The compassionate population of 96 million Quwananians are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.
The large government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Education, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 49.5%, but much higher for the wealthy.
The sizeable but inefficient Quwananian economy, worth 3.24 trillion quwans a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is quite specialized, is led by the Book Publishing industry, with significant contributions from Door-to-door Insurance Sales, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Information Technology. Average income is 33,702 quwans, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.
Explicit slash fiction is repackaged for kindergarten kids as stories about friends cuddling friends, drug lords often avoid prison time by teaching "chemistry" classes to underprivileged youth, listless juries are assembled for the simplest of court cases, and Quwananians are regularly fired for looking at MyFace during their lunch breaks. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Quwanani's national animal is the Quail, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
