5th Army was a field army of the Syaran National Army during the Zemplen War. Commanded by Colonel General Kakig Torossian, 5th Army fought as part of Army Group Gamma on the southern front of the Zemplen War.

History

5th Army was activated in July 2008 as negotiations broke down between Ruvelka and Syara. Torossian was appointed in early August just in time for the army to undergo minor operations in support of the August Offensive. In September 5th Army crossed the border and took part in the Battle of Pannonhalma, where it suffered heavy losses to Ruvelkan attack helicopters. During the Ruvelkan Winter Counter-Offensive Torossian had 5th Army launch a major counter-stroke in southern Ruvelka, which caught Ruvelka's Army Group South off guard and forced the Ruvelkans to abandon their plans on liberating Dunakesi. 5th Army then played a supporting role in Operation Synaspismos, breaking through Ruvelkan lines in the Matra Mountains into the Kenderes Steppe. Despite the success thus far, 5th Army as well as the rest of Army Group Beta was dealt a decisive defeat in Operation Sagaris. 5th Army pulled back to the Matra Mountains. 5th Army carried out a number of local offensives in late 2009 and 2010 before the launch of Operation Homefront. Initial Ruvelkan assaults largely failed to make any progress, but the ensuing collapse of 8th Army to the north threatened to collapse the Army Group's lines. Torossian's attempted to redeploy 5th Army to cover 8th Army's defenses, potentially halting the Ruvelkan breakthrough, but was overridden by Field Marshal Daniel Mladenov Todorov. 5th Army managed to retain most of its combat power and succesfully withdrew west into Hayreniky, where it was stood down after the war ended.
