The CLFIRD (Char Léger de Force d'Intervention RapiDe) also known as the AMX-83 in Sieuxerrian service, is a light tank that was developed to augment airborne infantry formations with dedicated armored vehicles. CLFIRD has been seriously upgraded since its acceptance in the 1980s. In the late 1990s, following the AMX-83B upgrade, an armored reconnaissance model called the AMX-98RC was introduced as a supplementary vehicle to the wheeled AMX-10RC and as a replacement to older series tracked reconnaissance vehicles.
