János I was the first Hétumogerian Emperor in 256 to 287. János was born to what is recognized as the Esterházy dynasty. His family as the Esterházy were part of the Veszprémic people. János became a Veszprémic Deer Archer and later the leader of the Veszprémic people. After the deaths of the leaders of the Sió people and the Rédic people, János declared that all tribes must unite, beginning the Hétumogerian Seven Tribes War. After the confederation of Veszprémic, Sió and Rédic peoples won the war, János was proclaimed to be the emperor of the newly born Hétumoger Confederation.

János new reign brought together the Eight Tribes of Hétumoger under one banner and focused on a new campaign, known as the Jánosian Wars. He launched a series of raids and attacks against Tervingia. He later detached from the war and the war turned over to occasional raids on the borders. János positioned Hétumoger and established a sphere of influence over the east of Lake Kulpansita, later returning to manage the confederation. János dictated that, as the ruler of Hétumoger, that his successor would be his eldest son, Sándor I. As the ruler of Hétumoger, he attempted to establish a more conclusive peace with the other four tribes that opposed him during the war. Alongside this, he created what was the barebone structure of the Nemesség by establishing estates across Hétumoger where tribes would rule from. Their rulers would participate in a Hétumogerian Noble Court where they would advise him on matters of the Confederation.

János separated Hétumoger into seven different provinces that split the seven tribes as a means to reduce border tensions that occurred between tribes, and began the build up of the noble-based government that Hétumoger still uses by using his noble court to issue edicts. As a emperor he trended towards autocracy, where he still had the final say in issues that were brought to the court.
