Zazakistan is one of the seven communities of the Republic of Kurdistan—alongside Soranijan, Kurmanjistan and the contested Rojava region and the Amed Capital Region. . It occupies the northern part of Kurdistan and covers an area of.. Kurmanjistan consist of 19 districts. Its capital is the city of Dêrsim. With a population of as of the 2010 Census, Kurmanjistan is the most populous community in Kurdistan.

The region is home to Kurds who speak the Zaza-Gorani language, and has a signical Turkish popluation, (10% are ethnic Turks), As such, in recent years, Zazakistan has been a near soucr of tension between Turkey and Kurdistan over the Zaza-Gorani-speaking kurds (that they are Turks who speak a Iranian langauge)
