Foreign fighters in the 2nd Sharifistani Civil War

Foreign fighters refers to people who are not Sharifistani citizens but nonetheless participate in the 2nd Sharifistani Civil War in any force other than one of the armed forces of their own country of citizenship.

Motives

Motives include money as well as religious or ethnic loyalties and family ties. Sharifistan has explicitly advertised using both religion and promises of financial gain for it's side. Most of the foreign fighters on the Sharifistani side are Muslim while most of the foreign fighters for Lazarus Rise and all known fighters of the the Christian Liberation Army are Christians. The majority of foreign fighters are unmarried men aged 16-23 years old, this has lead some commentators to claim that desire to meet and impress a potential wife is a factor as Sharifistan is 80.5% female.

Controversy

The Polish-Prussian Commonwealth threatens to sentence any foreign fighters they capture to death or imprisonment as "mercenaries" or Francs-tireurs. Lawers representing the Islamic Sultanate of Sharifistan and various companies associated with the Effendi family have argued that the combatants are, in fact, lawful for various reasons.

Prevalence and countries of origin

An estimated 9.5% of Sharifistani fighters are foreign fighters. Most commonly they come from Al-Harreh Danistarab, Arab countries or Turkey. These countries are often allied with Sharifistan and most of their population share the same religion.
