History

The ancestry of most Pasthuns in Sharifistan can be traced to soldiers who accompanied Pasha Muhammad Khan (from the Ghilzai tribe) as went to Turkey to swear allegiance to Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and serve as a military commander for him. To this day they are over-represented in the the Armed forces as well as the police and Fire and Rescue Service.

Culture

As well as having a military tradition Sharifistani Pashtuns are more conservative than other Sharifistanis on average, they are more likely to practice veiling and polygyny. Due to this conservatism the Sharifistani state of Pashtunistan declared independence to avoid the prospect of being ruled by a woman, leading to the 1st Sharifistani Civil War. Despite being a patriarchal culture, Sharifistani Pashtuns are extremely protective of women.
