History
The first Belmontese political party was the Liberal Party which supported the creation of a federal presidential republic, being responsible for leading the Federalist Revolt that established the First Republic. The opposition to liberal rule united amongst the Conservative Party. Over the remaining of the century, both parties would rule the country under the oligarchic Riachuelo Agreement. In 1909, the Liberal Party was dissolved into minor parties, causing a political crisis that led to the National Renovation Coup and the Berquó's dictatorship. After the end of the dictatorship, the Belmontese political system would be organized around the right-wing National Conservative Union (UCN) and the left-wing Social Democratic Party (PSD) and Socialist Bloc (BS).
