The Karataş family is a Sharifistani Romani family carrying the title of Bey-nin-Çingene (head of the Sharifistani Romani community).

History

Due to their service in the War of Independence the leader of the Karatas family, Ahmed Karataş was awarded the title of Bey-nin-Çingene, ruler of the Romani people of Sharifistan. This is a tradition that has continued to this day. Since 1944, the men of the family are expected to enlist in the Royal City of Industry Rifles.
