Fornænda is the nation capital of the Caropsyne Pontanore, the state capital of the Pontanore State of Carops, and its metropolitan area makes up of the entirety of the Pontanore Capital Administrative District (Standard Caropsyne: Chenterno Pontanoresca). The city, located along the Vacora River, was established at the same time as the formation of the Kingdom of Carops in 1266 under the reign of the first monarch, Othæglin. The construction of Fornænda would become the single largest construction exercise in all of Caropsyne history, taking over 150 years to complete. Although the original city is no longer standing for the most part, some structures from the days of the Old Kingdom have managed to survive the centuries including the Cansarte Palace and the Arch of Nepios. Central Fornænda's architecture is a mixture of baroque and art nouveau styles while outer districts are dominated by modern and utilitarian in line with the nation's social democratic philosophy.

Fornænda is the undisputed cultural center for the vast Caropsyne diaspora and the most visited city in all of Paradisia. It is the center of national government, commerce, finance, transportation, entertainment, and education. The city is host to the headquarters of both the Council of Nations and the Thearean Community. Fornænda is well-known for its exceptional resturants and cafes, romantic cobblestone squares and marble fountains, and beautiful parks and lively markets.

Geography

Fornænda is located in Central Carops on the Vacora River. Although the city center is 19 kilometers (12 miles) inland from the Thearean Sea, the city and its surrounding metropolitan area which make up the Pontanore Capital Administrative District (Standard Caropsyne: Chenterno Pontanoresca) extends to the shore where the south-western district of Pirus is located. The highest point in the city is the Cansarte Palace ontop of a hill overlooking the river on the Left Bank. The entire district covers an area of approximately 1,429 square kilometers (551.7 sq. miles), including many green areas. For hundreds of years, the city area was defined by the walls built by the early Caropsyne Kings of the early 1300's. While there are specified boundaries, many consider themselves residents of Fornænda if they live along or within the ring road.

Fornænda is an important national and international center for higher education. It is home to as the University of the Pontanore, formerly called the Imperial University (founded in 1404). The University is the one of the largest in the world with over 500,000 students attending and consists of forty-five colleges, a quarter of which are located in the city. The city is home to two dozen smaller institutions. Fornænda is home to the National Library. The Civil Directorate is responsible for maintaining the State Archives.

Infrastructure and transportation

Fornænda is the nexus of the Pontanore's Thearean transportation network.

Because of its location in Central Carops, it is a major railway node for the wider continental network. Fornænda's Vacedora-Chenzino Railway Station is one of Pontanore Railways (Standard Caropsyne: Pontanoresca Termenta) most important stations. Not only are there regular services but is also one of the four major stops of the high-speed corridor between Triana and Lazana via Ariatra and international express trains to Hran. The rail operator runs overnight trains to the Loslakian capital of Kilow and Hran in partnership with neighboring railways. The station is also the hub of Fornænda's MetroRail network.

The whole of Chenterno Pontanoresca is served by Fornænda Eremas-Gento International Airport, one of the Pontanore's four chief airports and the main hub of Pontanore Airways (Standard Caropsyne: Pontanoresca Ermenta). It is located in the district of Monino. Fornænda's Pirus is the sole district on the Thearean Sea and the primary deep-water port. Individuals can catch both traditional and high-speed ferries to Gomosc or Fazona, the capitals of the island states of Casona and Forlaea respectively.

Fornænda has a diverse mixture of radial roadways, wide boulevards, and narrow cobblestone streets which makes movement between districts a challenge at times. To combat automobile congestion, the city does have a metro system, however, it only consists of three lines. The current Yutrias Government is look at options to double the network's size. Despite this, the First Pontanore was one of the very first nations to make full use of electric-powered trams. By 1903, the city had 26 routes in operation. With the formation of the Second Pontanore, the Dormond Government declared that it would invest in not only maintaining the original network but expand the tram system to today's 32 lines. The most notable line is the 4 which runs through Terese Polminese. Besides the metro system and tramways, Fornænda has an extensive 350-route bus system.

Ferries operate up and down the Vacora River.

The city and wider region is a major interchange in the Caropsyne highway network. Fornænda is circled at a distance of about 11 kilometers (6 miles) by a ring-road also known as the A9. The main north-south autoroute connects at two points to the ring-road, while the A3 to Monchenta emerges on the eastern arc of the ring.
