Torchina (Marian: Turchina), officially the Second Republic of Torchina (Marian: Seconda Repubblica di Turchina) is a sovereign state located in the south of Vreya on the planet of Bacchus. A federal republic, the country occupies the bulk of Marian peninsula, as well as extending into the Vreyan Alps, the Odyssean Islands, and various smaller islands off the coast of the continent and the island chain. The country's mainland is bordered to the east and to the west by the Marenostro, and the same sea surrounds the countries various islands.

Historically, what is now Torchina was the heartland of the Tibernian Empire, although significant migratory periods prior to the formation of the empire, and after its collapse, have seen the region populated by various cultures.

Torchino Civil War and First Republican Period

The Torchino Civil War was a military conflict that took place between the years of 1643 and 1648. Initially caused due to religious schism between the reformist Veneratii, and the mainline Tradiziunalii. Throughout the course of the conflict, the reasons and war goals of the sides gradually morphed until such a time that the Veneratii were actively seeking to dismantle the monarchy and to establish a parliament. To contrast, whilst the Tradiziunalii initially sought only the continued rights and privileges of the monarchy, the staunch religious nature of the conflict eventually saw their primary motivation morph into a desire to outlaw the new religious sects.
