Winning song"خيانة" by Rina Yublaqani

AleziRadio Festival of Songs 1965 is the eighth edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. It was held on 16th of May 1965, which was held and organized by Radio Pyalivostok after Ika Naavalainen's victory last year. This is the third time that Pyalivostok has hosted the event after previously doing so in 1959 and 1962. This also means that Pyalivostok is the only region to host the competition more than once (Zafizamarrah may also count, but Zafizamarrah only won once). The competition was won by Rina Yublaqani with the song "خيانة" representing Zafizamarrah. Her victory marks the second time Zafizamarrah won the competition, which also marks the first time Zafizamarrah joins Pyalivostok in regions who has won more than once.

The competition is held in Gorodskoy Teatr, City of Pyalivostok, which has also held the competition in 1962. This means that this is the first time that the competition was held in a venue that has previously hosted the competition previously.

The competition is also known for being the first edition to test out a yet another new voting technique where each region get to vote for five out of 10 votable favorite songs. This was made in order to increase competitiveness.

Due to the inavailability of a tiebreaker rule except for the 1st place, this is the first edition of the competition that has four songs in the top three, where two songs earned third place.

This edition has both of Zafizamarrah's entries entering top three positions.

Incidents

Tel Hadivian Legal Issue

After the previous competition ended, and after the tiebreaker round concluded, Radio Tel Hadiv sued Radio Pyalivostok and accused the latter of cheating in the competition and bribing the tiebreaker jury. A few legal issues was brought to Ika Naavalainen herself, accusing her of cheating her way through the regional selection of Pyalivostok. Normally, the issue would be brought in to the less important Court of Inter-region Affairs. However, one accuser sued the entirety of AleziRadio, which due to its status of being a national broadcaster and a national institution funded by the government, immediately brought the entire case to the High Court of North Alezia. Tel Hadiv demanded that Pyalivostok give up its title and the right to host so Tel Hadiv could host the competition instead.

In the High Court proceedings, Radio Pyalivostok with the help of Radio Basna Raya (the host broadcaster of the previous competition) won the case after proving that both the Regional Selection and the National Competition were indeed correct and truthfully recorded. As a result, Radio Tel Hadiv had to pay AZ$ 140,000 (40,000 each to Radio Pyalivostok and Radio Basna Raya, 55,000 for AleziRadio, and 5,000 for Ika Naavalainen herself) as a fine and had to write an official letter of apology to each party that was accused which was released in November 1964 in the National Newspaper.

Thanks to the success of the defendants, Pyalivostok got to hold keep the competition. Normally, Tel Hadiv would've been disqualified from the competition for this year due to improper and unfair misconduct, however, after receiving the fines, AleziRadio dismissed the possible disqualification and Tel Hadiv get to stay and compete in the 1965 competition.

The Daya Island Controversy

After Ika Naavalainen's song won the previous year's competition, Aaren which was, and still is, the capital of Daya Island, expressed interest in hosting the competition. Makol Davolinen as the mayor of the town reasoned that Ika Naavalainen is a Dayaneer and she came from Aaren itself, and Finnish (the language of the winning song) is the official language of Daya Island.

However, it is impossible to host the competition in Aaren in any way. The infrastructure of the town is too inadequate for hosting an event as big as the AleziRadio Festival of Songs. Arrival of delegates itself would take a lot of money as the seaport of Aaren which was the only point of entry back then was still a very small port having only a single pier. Aaren also didn't have any hotels or venues suitable to even hold the event.

The town protested when Radio Pyalivostok refused to give the rights to Aaren, instead opting for a much safer and easier place which is the City of Pyalivostok itself. The town council threatened to foil and sabotage the competition if Aaren was not given the right to host immediately. Radio Pyalivostok responded by challenging Aaren to make the infrastructure such as expanding the seaport and a landing strip, plus a 5,000 seater theater in three months.

When the town failed to finish everything and refused the challenge due to lack of funds, Radio Pyalivostok kept preparations in the City of Pyalivostok. The town council threatened once again, luckily as the competition progressed, there is no catastrophic incidents that happened. As a result of this, the mayor and the entire town council of Aaren was changed immediately and all got arrested soon after the competition.

Ika Naavalainen reacted to this with a one page letter on how even though she came from Aaren, she was dissapointed and ashamed at the attitude of the town and apologized for the whole incident in that same letter. She also wrote that she wouldn't mind if the competition went to the City of Pyalivostok. because they "deserved it more" and that "at least the competition stays on".

Impact

Rina Yublaqani's victory was received exponentially well especially considering that Rina was already a well known singer (just hasn't released any albums or singles thus being eligible to the competition). After the competition, Rina's winning song shot up on the charts and stayed on peak for 7 months.

The voting system was considered successful and continued to be used for years to come.
