This article contains a list of active political parties in Hverland.
Conservative People's
The Conservative People's Party is the major contemporary party of the Hverlandic centre-right, and the largest party in the Rokthing. Different factions have dominated the party at different times, although over the past 80 years it has moved from the right-wing more towards the centre. The party advocates economic liberalism such as a reduction of taxes, deregulation, and free trade. Conservatives support individual rights and define themselves as a "conservative party of progress". The party generally supports semi-privatization through state-funded private services, LGBT rights, gun control, and tougher law and order measures. They oppose identity politics and advocate for an inclusive civic nationalism.
Liberals
The Liberals are a classically liberal political party. The party supports civil liberties, free trade, and internationalism. It currently has 8 seats in the Rokthing. The party has drifted more towards the centre in recent years, joining a coalition with the Moderates and Social Democrats in 2002. After the Social Democrats passed an unpopular abortion rights bill in 2006, many voters switched their voting preference from SD to the Liberals. Since then, the party has firmly pushed economic liberalism and has aligned itself closely to the promotion of free markets and privatization. It is strongly opposed to political and internet censorship. The party also supports socially liberal policies like LGBT equality.
Moderate
The Moderate Party is classified as centrist, although it has shifted slightly towards the economic centre-right in recent years. It currently has 8 seats in the Rokthing. The party advocates for neoliberalism; lower taxes, greatly reduced employer contributions, and a freer market. The party is a big advocator for small-business, farmers and entrepreneurs. They also advocate for medical and scientific research. The party supports the welfare state within the current free-market system and is a proponent of limited social liberal policies like drug reform and LGBT rights. The Moderates have been members of both centre-left and centre-right governing coalitions, and are often the kingmaker in the government formation process.
While the Moderates and New Future are close political allies and share a similar voting base, the Moderates draw more support from those Östsjö voters who identify as socially liberal and supportive of agrarian-inspired policies.
Christian Democrats
The Christians Democrats are a right-wing political party in Hverland with 5 seats in the Rokthing. They are aligned with social conservative policies such as criminalizing pornographic distribution and ownership, mandating more religious instruction in public schools, expanding gun rights, and cultural tests for immigrants. They oppose legalizing abortion and euthanasia, and also wish to restrict Hverland's loose substance laws by criminalizing marijuana and most other drugs.
Green–Left
The Green–Left Party combines environmentalism with centre-left economic policies, such as supporting a state economy with regulated capitalism and increased taxes for the wealthy. Members support progressive social policies on civil liberties, LGBT rights, animal rights, and drug reform. The party supports non-violence, a universal basic income, and instituting a minimum, living wage across the country. It has 4 seats in the Rokthing.
New Future
New Future is a conservative agrarian political party in Hverland. The party holds socially conservative positions, opposing abortion, gun control, and euthanasia, while maintaining moderately progressive stances on agrarian, economic and environmental issues. The party self-describes itself as "centre" and receives support from farmers, fishers, and union members across rural Hverland. New Future has 3 seats in the Rokthing.
Social Democrats
The Social Democrats are a left-wing political party in Hverland that has been described as an alliance of democratic socialists and opponents of Hverland's current neoliberal economic system. The party platform emphasizes greater state intervention, social justice, strengthening workers' rights, and, unlike most other political parties in Hverland, supports the formal separation of church and state. Since the 1990's the ideals of diversity and social justice have also taken a prominent role. Support for the Social Democrats has plummeted both due to their role in briefly legalizing abortion and the apparent success of the free market in increasing living standards across Hverland. They have no seats in the Rokthing, losing their representation entirely in 2014. Much of their former support has migrated to either the Liberals or Green–Left.
