Classifications

The Libriran Navy uses a series of different ship classifications, both to organize its fleets, as well as designate roles for particular ships. At various points in history these have changed. In service currently are the various classifications. They are typically, based off; size, weaponry, range, intended use, etc.

Cruiser/Carrier

A Designation unique to Librira. A Cruiser/Carrier in Libriran Naval parlance, is a ship displacing generally over 40,000 tons, with the facilities to launch and recover fixed or rotary wing aircraft, as well as the Armament found on most cruisers, particularly a battery of AShM launchers.

Ultra-Heavy Cruisers

The Official terms for what are effectively battle-cruisers. These ships typically displace in excess of 20,000 tons and are over 200m in length. They are armed with an extensive arsenal of AShMs, and main purpose is to destroy enemy battle-groups.

Cruisers

Cruisers were formerly the backbone of the Libriran fleet, forming a balance of range, standing power, and weaponry. In the modern era they still serve a purpose but are being over-shadowed by Destroyers and frigates. These ships displace around 10,000 tons, and feature a varied aresenal of Main battery guns, AShMs, and carrier helicopters. Are Intended to operate both alone and as part of fleet operations, and can accomplish a wide variety of missions.

Destroyers

The primary screen ship of Libriran fleets, these ships displace around 7000 tons, and are either intended for ASW or AAW roles. They are intended to protect Libriran fleets, but are also equipped with the missiles to form part of the offensive spearhead should the need arise.

Frigate

Frigates are intended for independent operations, displacing around 4,000 tons and intended to operate alone, or in company with smaller ships as a 'corvette-leader'. Such ships are intended for modern anti-piracy, and other patrol operations.

Corvettes

Corvettes are the Smallest warships in the Libriran navy, these boats vary in displacement from 500-1,800 tons and are primarily used for coastal patrols and defense, but are armed to punch above their weight.
