An Exarch is a deification and the end result of a transformative process in Forntianism by which a mortal attains a likeness to or union with Fornt. As a process of transformation, a mortal becomes an Exarch by the effects of the Holy Empowerments through purification of mind and body and meditative contemplation. This allows the fragment of Fornt's mind to exist in a mortal being granting them immortality until their final task, a geass, is done. Once this final task is given and completed the being dies and becomes absorbed into the unconscious mind of Fornt and is one with it forever, never truly being destroyed.

Idealist Teachings on Exarchs
According to Forntian Idealist teaching, becoming an exarch is very much the purpose of life. As Fornt is considered to be an unconscious force in the universe, Exarch-hood is considered achievable through a synergy (or cooperation) between mortal activities and the universe's unconscious energies. The journey toward Exarch-hood includes many forms of praxis. The most obvious form being Monasticism and Clergy. Living in the community of the temples and partaking regularly of the empowerments is considered the easiest option, also important is cultivating the empowerments in daily living away from the Holy Community, and those who realize it as a separate path from Forntianism altogether by experiencing and living the empowerments through direct experience and contemplation. Because it is taboo to profess one's exarch-hood, none in Idealism are encouraged to do so.
Realist Teachings on Exarchs
According to Forntian Realist teachings, which maintains that Fornt is a personal God, it is impossible to become an exarch in this life if one is not born one. Being reborn as one is very much the purpose of life, thus learning from the existing exarchs and the exarchs of the past are the only way to achieve the ultimate apotheosis with Fornt in the next life. The teachings and the methods taken by mortal activities are less important and the ability to achieve exarch-hood is based entirely on finding exarchs, and accepting their tutelage and teachings, and to discover how they achieved this in their past lives by taking the Exarchs as their guides. In realism it is not taboo to profess exarch-hood and it must be tested in order to ensure the continuation of the order. The seekers are meant to find and test exarchs and to see if they are worthy of following. Since an exarch is considered to be a fragment of the mind of Fornt, their word is considered to be infallible and a word to act upon.
