The 2020 Fallish presidential election was held on 10 March and 28 March, 2020. No candidate won a majority in the first round of the election so a runoff election was held between the top two candidates, the incumbent Micheal Callow of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who was seeking a third term in office and the incumbent Prime Minister, Nicholas Harper of the Centre Party (C). Harper won the election despite most pollsters predicting Callow would win easily.
Micheal Callow and Nicholas Harper led polls during the first round. A strong economy and high approval rating kept Callow ahead during the polls. Lauren Byrne, the incumbent Foreign Minister won the Democratic Party's primaries on 15 January 2017 and entered into a close third behind Harper and Callow. Shortly after this Eric Johnston from the right-wing Family Party entered into fourth place behind Byrne. Two weeks before the first round polls between Callow, Harper and Byrne closed and final polling data suggested a close contest between the three. Callow won the most votes in the first round and Harper who only came second by a margin of 10,000 votes advanced to the second round.
Throughout most of the second round Callow led Harper by upwards of 10 points but support for Callow dropped significantly after allegations of harassment and bullying were filed against Callow by a group of senior civil servants. One civil servant alleged Callow threatened them with violence during the campaign. Callow denied the allegations but polling after the allegations showed Harper ahead albeit with a narrow margin. Preliminary results after the second round showed that Harper had in fact won with a comfortable margin. The results were confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior on 2 April 2020. Harper was sworn in on 1 May 2020.
