Amazon
Amazon, sometimes Amazonas (Portugese: República Federativa do Amazonas) is a nation localized in South America. With a great contrast between area (5 million square kilometers) and population (19 million), The capital of Amazonas is the city of Manaus, and the largest city is the former capital, Amazonpolis. It is one of eight countries which have the Portuguese language as official in the Americas along with Brazil, Cabralia, Malipieria, Acre, Phhh and Amapa, and Palmeras.
The Portuguese language is considered as an official language along with other indigenous languages, being the most spoken the Nheengatu, a variant of the Tupi language, related language of Tupi austral, widely spoken in Brazil. The deforestation of the Amazon Forest became a big issue to Amazon, which is currently undergoing a redemocratization process. The election of the political activist Chico Mendes started the corrective maintenance against the deforestation, difficulting the activities of ranchers, landowners and garimpeiros (illegal gold miners).
