The modern Undreshistani Insurgency, considered to be the modern incarnation of the Venadian-Undreshistani Conflict, is an ongoing insurgency in the Volost of Undreshistan in south-east Venadia. The modern insurgency is marked by conflict between socialist and islamist Undreshistani groups, as well as their conflict with the Venadian state. The modern insurgency has its origins in the Second Ardanian Great War, with the Comintern sponsoring the creation of numerous militant communist groups in Venadia in order to distract the country from the larger war. The Undreshi Red Army was the most successful of these, and the only one to survive into the latter 20th century.
By the early 1960s, islamist groups had also taken hold in Undreshistan, and to a lesser extent Boldiria and southern Ilveria. The Islamists originally cooperated with the socialists, albeit this uneasy alliance broke down in the early 70s and some of the largest activities by both groups have since been against each other. The 1970s to 1990s was the height of the insurgency in Undreshistan, which included two pitched battles between rebels and government forces. By the late 1990s however, rebel groupings had lost much of their foothold and support-base, and in the 21st century the insurgency have been more marked by individual acts of terror rather than protracted guerrilla warfare.
