Auxiliary emergency support group

Auxiliary emergency support groups, or AESGs, is the formal classification for all-volunteer auxiliary forces possessed and governed by each province within Fratanica, which can be deployed to assist the civil authority during times of emergency. These groups have played key roles in natural disaster prevention and currently serve as auxiliary to local emergency services. These groups are usually under an emergency agency of their respective provincial governments.

These groups began to pop up in the 1960s, during an era in which national patriotism had reached its peak and many citizens began volunteering for the nation. The deployment of these groups is rare, due to Fratanica's large government and military. However, they have been deployed several times throughout history, during particularly disastrous natural disasters or civil emergencies.

History

During the 1960's, a combination of overwhelming national pride and civil emergencies had created the need for citizen participation. Therefore, the Fratanican government encouraged the development of a civil auxiliary force which could reinforce civil and military authorities if necessary. However, the provinces were against a national auxiliary force, which they believed was sidestepping their powers. Hence, a compromise was worked out between federal and provincial governments.

The first AESG was organized by the Nertha Provincial Government, which created the Nertha Auxiliary Emergency Support Group in 1964. Since then, all 14 provinces have developed AESGs.
