Diego Monaldo was the 2nd President of Lissatha and the first Catholic president, serving from 1961 until 1966. Monaldo was elected to the Senate in 1954, and Appolon Pachis selected him as his running mate for the 1958 election, Pachis died of a stroke in 1961 and Monaldo succeeded him as president, Monaldo inherited a booming economy and rode that to re-election in 1962. The economy crashed in 1964 and Monaldo was unable to bring it back to normal levels, failing to win re-election in 1966. Monaldo is considered one of the worst presidents in Lissathan history.
