Conscription in Al-Khilafah is known as National Service. 2119 to 2120, it was for two years and involved heterosexual, free, Muslim men aged 16 to 39.

Currently some form of National service is required of all citizens aged under 60 except for extreme disabilities.

History

National service has been used from before 2111 to present. From 2111 to 2115 it was used on a similar basis to the peacetime practice but from October 2116 to December 2119, practices more similar to the current law were used.

Types

Military conscription- Muslim, heterosexual males assessed as fit for this service and aged fifteen to forty two years old are generally placed in this category.

There is a non-combatant Corps for conscientious objectors.

Labor conscription- This is a home-front form of conscription. It is categorised into groups “very safe”, “safe”, “medium”, “dangerous” and “very dangerous”.

Women are only placed in the first two categories whilst members of religious or sexual minorities are only placed in the first three.

Civil conscription- conscription into the civil services. Anyone aged 15 to 60 can be given this form of conscription.

Civil defence conscription- conscription into fire and rescue departments, the Health Service etcetera.

Only Muslim, heterosexual men can be conscripted into these roles but other groups (such as women, religious minorities and gay people) can volunteer.
