The Pollux is a short-range air defense (SHORAD) system produced by Syara. It was first introduced in 1998 to provide tactical air defense for the Syaran National Army. The Pollux is equipped with both surface-to-air (SAM) missiles and a 40mm anti-air auto cannon and is primarily designed for tackling low flying, slower fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. Additional variants can replace the 40mm auto cannon for additional SAMs. The Pollux remains in production and over 1,200 have been produced.
The Pollux saw extensive service during the Zemplen War where it was often tasked with defending Syaran ground forces from Ruvelkan ground attack aircraft and attack helicopters. The primary targets of the Pollux were typically UAVs, AFSF-8 Folivori, the HH1, HH2, and HH3 attack helicopters. The Pollux was most often employed as a brigade level air defense system, usually attached to a brigade's air defense battalion. Pollux's could also be found in independent air defense units and were often attached to mobile tactical elements to provide protection to ground forces between the brigade and battalion level.
