De Aaalmsted Heraald (Estmerish: The Aalmsted Herald) is an Azmaran daily morning newspaper owned by De Heraald Gruupen. Often considered Azmara's newspaper of record, the paper has the highest circulation in the country, with a daily circulation of around 140,000 a day. The newspaper's site is also consistently one of the top ten most visited websites in Azmara.
The newspaper was founded in 1856 by members of Aalmsted's artisan and intellectual classes as a publication supporting the radicalism and secularism of the newly-founded Commonwealth, making it one of the oldest publications in the country. It would expand its coverage over the early 20th century to become a national paper, yet would see censorship and threats by the National Coalition government of the 1920's. It is currently owned by De Heraald Gruupen, a privately-traded media corporation set up in 1954 as part of a restructuring of the paper, and is currently edited by journalist Alena Karlsdohter.
In the modern day the paper is heavily associated with a centre-left stance influenced by social liberalism and social democracy alongside a supportive line on the issue of Euclean integration. However, it has been criticised by many on the more radical ends of the left for being centrist and middle class-focused, with the epithet Heraaldist existing as a critical term for those from affluent backgrounds supporting left-leaning politics with perceptions of inauthenticity and trendiness.
