The nation of Makara Milaythina is a archipelago located in the eastern Sublustrian Ocean, north of Valentir and west of The Ik' Ka' Ek' Akai. The population of the nation is estimated to be over a million people, or more precisely 1,120,000 inhabitants according to a survey preformed in 2015. The city housing the nation's largest population and national capital is Ke'alohilani. The archipelago the nation resides on consists of 12 main islands as well as several hundred more uninhabited and inhabited islands and atolls. The capital of Ke'alohilani resides on the westernmost and largest island in the nation, Suvallu.
The residents of the nation are radically diverse, with some having modern, semi-modern, or completely traditional/isolated lifesytles. Residents of the nation belong to one of many existing tribes, some being fully contacted with others only making contact on a rare basis, or others refusing to make any contact at all. Islands in the east and central regions lived primarily on a diet gathered through fishing and hunting, whilst tribes in the west of the nation primarily farmed and only hunted when needed.
The islands were originally populated by the 13th Tribe, exiled from modern-day Valentir in 356 AD. Over several centuries they genetically changed, becoming more pale-skinned as an example. Various portions of the tribe broke up as the 13th Tribe dissolved into several dozen smaller Chiefdoms. These chiefdoms grew in size, with the western chiefdoms turning into farming based civilizations. Without the need to act as a hunter-gatherer society, these chiefdoms experienced development in the field of government but usually lacked technological development anywhere else.
In the year 1327, a Hyndanan merchant named Dushkriti Brambhmatt looking for the source of the spice trade in the Sublustrian Ocean, coming from Valentir unbeknownst to Dushkriti arrived in Makara after being dragged eastwards by a storm. Dushkriti, convinced that he had found the origin of the spice trade network was extremely eager to trade with the natives. After several weeks, though Dushkriti was extremely disappointed to discover that Makara was not the source of the spice network originating from the southeast he preyed upon the fact that the natives did not have a system of writing. He spent several months introducing the Hyndanan alphabet and language to the natives before leaving as well as showing the benefits of using a written language. After his departure, though the natives kept their language they spread their newly adopted form of writing.
In 1631, a year after the founding of a colony in modern day Valentir by explorer Valentin de Valema, word reached Euclea that he had found a second landmass north of the colony. The Estermish swiftly sent a fleet consisting of 7 vessels to explore the region, hoping to catch up in the colonial game. The exploration mission was largely successful, though it's intent was to simply explore the region rather than actually claim it. A second expedition the next year, in 1632 formally claimed the islands,
Etymology
Makara Milaythina is the indigenous name for the nation of Makara. In the primary language of the archipelago, Milaythinaluynii, the name 'Makara Milaythina' translates into 'Resting Land'. The exact reason for how the name came to be is unknown but is likely linked to the beautiful scenery of the nation.
