The Bears (Mouse-Bear Language: 熊) are a race of beings that are the descendants of the Daxiong, one of the members of The Zodiac. They are one of the Four Blue Heralding Beasts, meaning they are especially able to control Blue Spirit Energy. During the Era of the Celestial Empire, the Bears were considered on par with the Mouse, the Bird and the Dingo, as a caste of labor. The Bears and the Mice began the Red Rebellion, the subsequent stage of the Auspicious Mouse Rebellion against the Celestial Empire. The Rebellion would later culminate to the end of the Celestial Empire and the independence of the Bears as the Heralders of Blue Spirits.

The Bears trace their ancestry to Daxiong, or the Great Bear. The Great Bear was one of the Twelve Ancestral Beings that created the Zodiac. After the creation of the Zodiac, the Bears trace their heritage to the Xiongshu, the confederation of Bears and Mouse in the Era of the Yellow Sky. The Xiongshu lived along the Red River in the northern areas and settled in more colder to near-arctic conditions. During the Era of the Celestial Conquest, Xiongshu was invaded by the Celestial Empire

In the Era of the Great Peace, the Bears had become Polar Bears, white in fur color with dark eyes. The Bears formed what is known as the Polar Bear Empire with much of their cultural ancestry based and rooted from the Polar Bears that existed between Hongjiang and Kuaihe. The Polar Bears share many cultural traits with the Mice, and linguistically speak the same language as the Mice. Much of the cultural integration between the Bears and Mice is cited to have been from the romance that Daxiong and Zuilao.
