Winning song"Mijn hart is gemaakt van diamanten" by Ozhlana

AleziRadio Festival of Songs 2001 is the fourty-fourth edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. The competition was held as usual in 16th of May 2001 by the authorities of Royal Bristolian Radio (BR). This is the fourth time that Bristol hosted the competition after previously hosting in 1960, 1976, and 1997 after the victory of "The Night" sung by the trio of Jen, Alton, and Michael Harrison. They also presented the festival, where they continued a random occurence of last year's winner presenting the present year's festival after Mika'il Sanjaya presented the 1996 competition together with Arinika Yanni.

The competition was won by Ozeul Marie-Anne Ancic or more known as Ozhlana with the song "Mijn hart is gemaakt van diamanten". Her victory marks the first time a song sung in Dutch won the competition and the first time Pantabang Islands won the competition after previously earning three second places and one third place. Pantabang Islands thus become the second territory to win the festival after Daya Island. Her song is also the first song to earn and win the festival with over 300 points. Another thing to note is that the song didn't won neither the Jury or Public vote, earning second place on each.

Zafizamarrah and Bristol concludes the top three in this year's festival, with Zafizamarrah earning its' fifteenth second place and fourty-third title, and Bristol earning its' fourth third place and eleventh title. On the other side, Mosin-Nagan earned last place again. Pantabang Islands' victory left Mosin-Nagan as the sole holder of the longest non-winning region to participate since 1966.

This is the second time that Victoria which is the capital of Bristol, hosted the festival. Victoria was surprisingly selected after a bidding process hold by BR. For the first time, the competition to the rights of the festival were held using a two-round system. In the first round, Victoria, Breganny, Aubergine, Port Cherry, and Saintwells bid for the festival. On the second round, Victoria won over last Bristolian host city Breganny.

Victoria, or also known as Victoria of Bristol or Victoria of Alezian Bristol in order to avoid confusion. The 2000 Alezian Census showed that as of 2000, around 1,002,383 people called VoB (as its coloquially known) their home. As a territory of the United Kingdom with high supervision from North Alezia (until 2021 where the territory was given back to the Alezian Union), the region operated differently from other regions in North Alezia in many aspects, such as law, economy, and many more.

Due to the complications of hosting the competition again in the Royal Theatre (which hosted the festival back in 1976) with its obsolete design especially with its small seating size, BR decided to host the festival in the still-being-built at the time Grand Theatre Complex (GT Complex). located 3 kilometers from the old border of Victoria, it has 5 theatres (Beaver, Platypus, Penguin, Tarsius, and Lemur) arranged in a circular shape.

For the competition only, the five theatres were combined into one MegaTheatre able to host 20,000 people. Initially, only one was going to be used (Lemur Theatre, hence why it was "technically" hosted in the Lemur Theatre), with Lemur Theatre being temporarily turned into a stage, orchestra pit, scrutineer box, commentary room, and green room. After the competition concluded, the walls of each theatre were closed again and Lemur Theatre was turned into another theatre.

The voting system was updated once again, giving all regions five juries with the right to vote in ARFOS jury votes. This year also combines phone and internet votes into one Proportional System voting.

The year was met with a solemn situation as Soeradi who was supposed to conduct the Basnaharian entries for that year's festival passed away suddenly on 17th of January 2001 due to an unknown complication. Soeradi was given a moment of silence for contributing to ARFOS' success where he has conducted all Basnaharian entries for 12 years from 1987 to 2000 (except for 1996 where he didn't conduct due to overexhaustion), making him one of the longest-serving conductors at the festival. Soeradi himself was substituted by Ali Hisaraudin.

Daya Islander Maria Naavasulainen returned to the festival after earning fourth for her region last year.
