Minimum legal ages in Cordonia

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Cordonia is a country in western Europe. Cordonia has different minimum legal ages for various legal activities codified in national statue, royal decrees and court rulings.

Background

Generally, minimum legal ages are created by Cordonia's duchies but the age of majority was unified at the national level in 1961 following constitutional reforms proposed by King Dirk II and ratified by the Parliament of Cordonia. After 1961, the general age of majority was set at 21 years of age to match neighboring countries influenced by British common law. In 1970, under the Ages of Capacity Act, the age of majority was lowered to 18 years of age and has remained that age since. The age to ascend the throne was traditionally set at 21 but lowered to 21 under the Ages of Capacity Act. The age to inherit a noble or royal title was 18 but was abolished by King Liam, in part so his two minor daughters could become the Princess of Cordonia and Duchess of Lythikos, respectively.
