Duke of Tyrrhenia
Duke of Tyrrhenia is a title in the Peerage of Mesogeia that has been created twice, first in 710 and secondly in 883. The title is one of the oldest titles of nobility in existence in Mesogeia; and one of the highest titles attached to a patriciate; an honour reserved for only the highest nobles. The title is derived from the theme of Tyrrhenia.
History
First creation dates to 710 when the title was created for INSERTNAME, the son of Emperor PLACEHOLDER of the Northern Troianian Empire. The title eventually became extinct in the male line when the last heir died without any male issue in 883. His daughter Anna having married into the Tzoulisiaros family was acknowledged as heiress to her father's estates. Anna's husband Gaius Tzoulisiarios, formally the Count of Bruttium was created Duke of Tyrrhenia, inheriting the title by right of marriage to the last heiress.
The family name of the Dukes of Tyrrhenia is Tzoulisiaros, which is the modern translation for the surname, however the family name has been transliterated in various ways over the centuries, including but not limited to Giouliaros, Julisi, Iouliassos, and Tzoulisatos.
