South Alezian Song Festival 1973 (Dutch : Zuid-Alezische Songfestival, Indonesian: Festival Lagu Alezia Selatan) is the first edition of the short-lived South Alezian Song Festival. It was held on 27th of July 1973 in Doorsbreeken Theatre, the biggest theatre in South Alezia at the time and still holds the title now with seating reaching 6,700 people. It was said that this record was to be broken by ABA Doorsbreeken Theatre in July 2022.
The Song Festival came from the South Alezian government's desire to compete against the more famous North Alezian AleziRadio Festival of Songs. Even if North Alezia at the time was more closed off than South Alezia, North Alezian songs that won the festival eventually made its way to other countries like Carrelie and Japan. The Government of South Alezia fearing of North Alezian surprising domincance in music tried holding a song festival of its own.
The competition used a voting system similiar to the one used by ARFOS in its' earlier years. But instead of regions, the SASF has South Alezia's 19 television stations compete against each other. Initially, North Alezia was to compete, but then decided to withdrew considering the safety of the North Alezian delegation in Doorsbreekenstad. This situation was similiar as the time when South Alezia was about to compete in ARFOS. In this festival, songs are only allowed to be sung in either Indonesian or Dutch. This caused some controversy with singers in Southern Pantabang Islands who wanted to sing in Native Alezian. Native Alezian was eventually allowed the edition after.
Different from ARFOS, the SASF used a draw instead of the rankings of the previous edition's festival to decide the running order of the show. The running order was decided a week before the event, which is also the time when rehearsals and preparation for the event end.
