Elizabeth Adams McCord (née Adams; born May 31, 1968) is an American analyst, educator and diplomat who serves as the 70th United States secretary of state since March 25, 2014. She was previously a professor at the University of Virginia from 2011 to 2014 and a Central Intelligence Agency analyst from 1991 until 2011.

During her early tenure as secretary of state, McCord investigated the death of her predecessor, Vincent Marsh. Marsh and several high-level associates in the United States Intelligence Community, including former CIA director Andrew Munsey, orchestrated a failed coup d'état against Iran. McCord and other officials foiled the coup after suffering injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder during the assassination of Zahed Javani, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Iran.

McCord has received high approval ratings and ranks among the best secretaries of state, occasionally ranking higher than President Conrad Dalton.
