Jim Caldwell (born June 9, 1996) is an American political activist. He is running for U.S. House of representatives for California's 12th Congressional District, having received the plurality of votes in the June 7 primary.[1] Caldwell is a former member of the Democratic Socialists of America and has been endorsed by various politically progressive organizations and figures. If elected, he would become the second member of congress born in the 1990s.
Early life and education
Caldwell was born on June 9, 1996 in San Francisco, California to Henry and Anne (nee Murphy) Caldwell. He graduated Lowell High School in 2013. Caldwell enrolled at [SCHOOL] where he earned a Master's Degree in [FIELD] in 2018.
Career
In 2015 Caldwell took part in a summer internship program in Congressman's Joe U. R. Mama Washington office. Following his internship he gained employment in Mama's district office in San Francisco where he worked until his resignation in 2021 in order to run for the House. He currently works as [area] specialist at [SF non-profit].
Political activism
Caldwell is a political organizer and activist having volunteered for food banks and drug therapy charities. He has spoken out on a number of issues relating to San Francisco and organized a petition aimed at providing housing to homeless citizens and ending overpolicing in homeless camps.

2022
Following Congressman Mama's announcement of retirement at the end of the 117th Congress, Caldwell announced his candidacy for California's 12th congressional district in June 2021. Caldwell was among the candidates for the first open election for California's 12th congressional district since the establishment of the current district's boundaries in 2013. In the June 2022 primary election he finished first, ahead of state representative Donaldine Johnson (Democratic), businessman John D. Prime (Republican) and political activist Nadine Murray (Green), among others[2], advancing to the general election in November. He received the endorsement of Joe U.R. Mama, his political mentor, in January 2022 and has enjoyed support from grassroots progressive organizations both from San Francisco and broader United States.
Caldwell is facing a fellow Democrat Donaldine Johnson in the November general election.

LGBT
Caldwell supports the Equality Act and is a strong supporter of LGBT rights.
Abortion
Caldwell opposed the overturning of Roe v. Wade and called for the codification of abortion access by Congress.
Healthcare
Caldwell supports single-payer universal healthcare and endorsed Medicare For All proposal.
