The XM-182 Kinetic Plasma Shell, commonly called the XM-182 KPS is an experimental plasma shell developed by the Republic of Kalaron to supplement traditional kinetic metal penetrators in anti-armor roles. Basically a shell that contains xenon which is superheated upon impact, the xenon becomes ionized gas (aka plasma) and provides an immense amount of penetration against all types of armor.
Design
An XM-182 is for a lack of better words, a metal encasing for a relatively large amount of a isotope of Xenon and a super-capacitor utilizing double layer electrolyte storage for energy. When triggered by the on-board micro-computer, the capacitor dumps all of it's stored electricity through the two leads into the radon so as to ionize the gas into forming a high-temperature plasma, this process can be relatively expensive due to high production needs, both for the capacitor itself, and for the energy it uses. Though initial designs aimed for a relatively "hot" plasma, most later models utilize a more stable and slightly "colder" plasma configuration of only 10^4 electrons per cubic centimeter, which, while lower than initial designs, still allows for a heat production of roughly 13,430 degrees Fahrenheit. It is at this point, after the plasma production (which takes less than one second) has been triggered, that the shell hits the target, engulfing it in a veritable hell-fire, immolating the armour, crew, and weaponry. Each shell tends to cost an approximate 2941.17 Kubricks to produce (5,000-USD) and stand at a height of 984mm (38 inches) with a total diameter of 120mm, which comes out to a total of thirty kilograms of xenon contained within. The Xenon used is a stable isotope, and provided the super-capacitor is maintained, the Shell can be used for up to four years after it's creation.
Service History
The XM-182 entered service in 2016, the same year it was designed. An initial order of around 200 shells were placed for initial service evaluation, with more orders expected as the results from the tests have been positive.
Exports
Note: every shell is sold at 15,000 USD. Baxten has opened a procurement contract for 285,000 shells. Flynnvakia has opened a procurement contract for 500 shells. Aldwood has opened a procurement contract for 485,000 shells. Minnesota Dakota has opened a procurement contract for 200,000 shells.
