The Federation of Hugostan is a nation located within Central Argis, and borders Transbaltia, Baltica and Perkunia. It is a heavily mountainous land, with very few fields or plains. Historically, although it was a part of the Ahranian Empire, it was a barren region, in which few lived. Its hostile environment is what scared many away, and as such the area was poor and underdeveloped. This was the case until the arrival of Duke Hugo, who would build the nation's capital of Hugostad (Nowadays known as Gurvinburg), and helped spark a migration of exiled Dolch. These Dolch would flock to both Hugostan and eventually Estimeria, establishing their own miniature trade network, centered around the Visagris river, which flowed from the Hugostan mountains, the Baltican trade city of Visagris. When copper and other minerals were discovered in the area, it saw the region experience another population boom, as people flocked to the lands of Hugostan for work and the dream of riches. This boom is known as the Bronze Wave, and lasted until the eventual Wars of Independence. Dispite Hugostans best wishes, it was forced to gain independence, or be partitioned between its neighbors.
Etymology
The name Hugostan, comes from the nations first king, King Hugo the Founder. At the time the nation had been called Stania, and was one of many principalities within the Ahranian Empire. He not only founded the nations capital, but helped elevate the region from a Principality, to a Kingdom within the Empire. He was forever honored when the nation achieved independence, and the young state was officially given the name of Hugostan. Although some have been pushing for the nation to readopt its former name of Stania, to distance the nation from its oppressive past under Ahrana, for now at least, the name Hugostan remains popular among the population.
