The Vichenza-Cesena Proiettile is a Cacertian high-speed Proiettile rail line that connects Cesena with Potenza, located in the central region of Apullia. The route length is 684 km (425 mi) making it Cacerta’s longest Proiettile line. It runs through several islands within the Sarissita Region and through four undersea tunnels, the longest tunnel extends 58.7 km (36.5 mi) underneath the Isca Strait and connecting the islands of Utina and Ischia.
Train Services
- Veloce: Limited stop service (beginning in 1997).
- Svelto: Alternating stop service.
Unlike the Proiettile lines that run on the main islands of Sarissita and Padova, the Cesena-Potenza line only has two services in order to maximize efficiency. Veloce service is the fastest of the two available and makes a single stop in Hydrantum in either direction. Including the 15 minute stop in Hydrantum, an AV2017 Veloce train can make the run between Cesena and Potenza in 2 hours 48 minutes.
Svelto trains on the Cesena-Potenza line alternate stops and are staggered every half hour. This ensures relatively rapid service and maximizing the overall time-table for trains on the line. Trains in Svelto service runs rarely make consecutive stops in between the hubs at Cesena, Hydrantum, and Potenza.

In order to accomodate faster service, Svelto trains possess alternating stopping patterns dependent on their daily schedules (these stations are marked with a “▲”). All trains stop at Vichenza, Hydrantum, and Cesena.

History
The opening of the Vichenza-Cesena Proiettile and its outstanding success entertained the idea of connecting a high-speed rail line to further include the Kingdom’s third largest city of Potenza. The largest presented obstacle would be developing the necessary link between the islands of Utina and Ischia of which only an undersea tunnel was considered feasible; geological surveying for tunnel construction began in 1965.
Construction of various parts of the line in Herdonia began in 1971 and coincided with the start of main tunnel construction from both side of the Isca Strait. The Faventia to Tentyra section of the line took 10 years to construct and was opened in 1981. A pair of smaller undersea tunnels was constructed to accommodate the section between Cesena and Faventia and was opened in 1984.
The Isca Strait Tunnel, the final section of the line, was completed on 10 May 1985 and required the use of thirteen tunnel boring machines over the course of fourteen years.
