Monarch of Gaellicia

The Ríog of Gaellicia is the head of state of the united kingdom. Ríog translates most accurately to monarch. The term is gender neutral and is used to describe both male and female rulers. The position of Ríog is not hereditary. An individual is selected for the position from a pool of candidates put forward by clans. Candidates complete a series of trials known as the Taghadh na Teine, the trial by fire, before a final decision is made by a council of clan elders. The current Ríog is Bricius IV of the clan Urquhart. Each clan has a unique method for determining its leadership and inheritance structures.
