Federal elections were held in the three Tarperti Kingdoms, Austerfluss, Astra, and the Strand, on 16 June 1900 in preparation for the unification of the Tarperti lands into the United Kingdoms of Tarper on 20 March 1901 as stated in the 1899 20 March Agreement. The Radical Party managed to achieve majority, the People's Party came in second, and the Tarperti Section of the Socialist Party came in third in the popular vote but gained no seats in the Tarperti Realm Assembly.
Background
In order to prepare for Tarperti unification, the 20 March Agreement mandated that elections take place a year or so before the unification in order to ensure efficiency at the start of the country. Parties were legalized in all three Tarperti Kingdoms in 1899, causing the foundation of the Radical Party, a Liberal party claiming to be the Tarperti successor to the Party of the Grand Republic, and the People's Party, a conservative party claiming to be the Tarperti successor to the Imperial People's Party. Both parties claimed to be the Tarperti successor of the Progress Party. Thanks to the legalization of political parties, the Tarperti Section of the Socialist Party, claiming to be the Tarperti successor to the United Socialist Democratic Party, decided to bring it self into the public light after choosing to remain underground since its inception in 1892.
Reactions
The liberal, Radical Party, was elected into majority and created the first Tarperti government. The three Tarperti monarchs congratulated the Earl of Lanstead, Charles Jarret Karl, for his ascension into Chancellor of the Tarperti people. Delegations from neighboring countries and former imperial colonies followed suit in giving congratulations.
In the weeks following the election, the People's Party willingly gave into coalition talks, giving way to a united government "in order to secure the commonwealth of the fledgling nation." as stated by Sir Bebel. This idea of a united government at the start of a regime would be followed by the Tarperti Confederation, Second Republic of Tarper, and the current Federal Republic. The Tarperti Section of the Socialist Party had also congratulated the new Chancellor, with leader Ernesto Rivero stating at a post-election party convention, "I am not angry with our loss in the election, I am but content that our nation, after more than a thousand years, finally has a state to call home." Rivero did not let the Radical Party off too easy though, later stating at that same convention that "Well give 'em hell next time".
