Tahar Bajbane (July 30 1903 - October 13 1989) was a Salamati soldier, and a general of the Salamati Independence Army. He became disabled after stepping on a landmine near Sidi Ghalmat in April 1969, and was ordered to stop fighting. After the independence, he started painting at his home in Sidi Ghalmat. He was praised as an hero by both the 1st Republic and the Kharrabist regime as an hero of independence.

He was married to Jamila Bajbane (February 16 1906 - April 15 1984) in 1927 and had 6 children :

  • Amira Bajbane (September 9 1930 - September 3 2009)
  • Qasim Bajbane (January 5 1932 - July 27 1939)
  • Othman Bajbane (October 10 1935 - February 21 2016)
  • Assia Bajbane (December 3 1936 - January 31 2017)
  • Samirah Bajbane (August 29 1938 - May 24 2007)

He died at dusk on October 13 1989 in the General Hospital of Sidi Ghalmat, after being plunged in a coma for 25 days. He was accompagnated by his family and some officials.

The Ramzuz-Tahar Bajbane Airport is named after him.
