Dr. Jacob Groeneveld is a Vaillais economist who served as nth prime minister of Vailleux from the first electoral cycle following the Millennium Crash until probably three terms ago(?).

Elected from outside the political establishment, Groeneveld is one of the earliest premiers not to be part of the broad liberal coalition that had had a pretty solid monopoly on power since Gerard Hugo died. He is the first modern Vaillais premier to hail from the !Dutch ethnic group, which has a sizable minority in the north of Vailleux. Groeneveld served as an economics professor at the Université Porte-Calme until becoming an MP in 1990. In 1998, he unexpectedly won the premiership.

Groeneveld is most recognized for his leadership in the wake of the Millennium Crash, which saw him sunset many of the protective economic measures first implmemented under Hugo. His administration saw a noticeable shift towards a more democratic socialist economic policy and strengthening of the social safety net. Never popular among the Porte-Calme powerbrokers, he eventually lost a leadership election in 2007 and resigned both the premiership and his office not long afterwards. Since retiring from politics, he has returned to the Université Porte-Calme.
