Weskerby is the capital city of, and the most populous city of, both Osynstry and its sovereign state, Esthursia. Weskerby sits on the west bank of the Weskermere - to which it gives its name; it has been a major port city for at least a millennium, and settled for nearly two millennia. Located just south-east of the old Osynstric capital of Armston, Weskerby and its surrounding settlements have often been the centre of Osynstric culture and history, and in turn that of Esthursia. Since its settlement in the 4th century CE, Weskerby has grown substantially; the Brough of Weskerby, its financial centre, remains under the boundaries set up by the Classical Empire in 1055 - while its more recent growth has spurred the ongoing reclamation of land and settlement thereof as seen on Ettwerp.
Weskerby has long been a centre of the nation's sociopolitical and cultural life, and is nicknamed by local Esthurs the "Gateway to the East" due to its prominence as a major port and its connections to the eastern world. Along with Brantley, Weskerby is one of the two megacities within Esthursia. Weskerby continues to be a major hub for culture, media, finance and trade within Esthursia, and a transit hub between the various regions of Esthursia, thanks to its central location, public and private transport links, and able economic facilities. The centre of government and politics within Esthursia, the Houses of Berworth, are also situated in the centre of Weskerby.
