Armed Forces of the Empire of Canada
The Armed forces of the Empire of Canada are the nations military and para-military units. These are incredidibly extensive, as the population was both fearful and angry about another future invasion and occupation. It is also unique in its organization, in that there is no singular army.
The Legions
As a result of the failure of the army and total collapse during the great trial, the Empire of Canadas government decided it would be best if a singular army was not used due to the likelihood of another total collapse, or of one mans treachery leading to the nations demise. As such, the ground forces were to be broken up into 20, unique and special Legions, each fully independent (for the most part), although these are also subject to geographical commands in order to best ensure loyalty. Each legion has its own culture, doctrine, equipment, bases, air and naval assets, and command structures, although the basic layout is the same across all the legions. Each is led by an officer who reports directly to the geographical command, or to the Emperor himself.
The First Legion
The First Legion is fairly well balanced in its units, and is used in many ways, with its many conventional forces. However, they prefer to be used in a way that allows them to test new concepts and ideas and tactics, as they are responsible for the development of these in the field. Furthermore, some small groups are also used against those who dodged the draft, arresting them.
The Second Legion
One of the two that are led directly by the Emperor, these are his dagger from which the Emperors will is struck. It contains the vast majority of the nations special forces, nuclear misisles, theater level communications units, military intelligence units, the Guard Corp of the Emperor, Psychological operations, a special air regiment, the Inquisition, and the Black operations of the Nation. As such, these are highly secretive and the legion is known as the Lost.
The Third Legion
The Third legion is, like the first, a pretty well rounded legion. It contains both armour and infantry, and is used much the same as the first. However, its focus is on that of the perfect assault, or ambush, and using assaults in a way to cause maximum casualties with as few to themselves as possible, as well as an emphasis on close combat.
The Fourth Legion
Much the same as the third, its armoured and infantry based units are the mainstay of the force. However, they attempt to beat an enemy through attrition, and excel in assaulting fortified positions.
The Fifth Legion
Another all-rounder legion, its units are mostly motorized or mechanized. They have an emphasis on quick assaults or reaction force, and excel in armored warfare and operations in plains and steppe.
The Sixth Legion
Slightly more flexible then the other standard legions, as it contains some airborne units, the Sixth Legion is also responsible, as the fist of the Emperor, as being a failsafe against any traitors within other legions. If any are detected on a large scale, the Sixth legion is sent to punish and destroy the traitorous elements.
The Seventh Legion
An entirely mechanized force, this legion has a focus on armored warfare. It thus is deployed wherever an equally armoured foe is expected, such as a near peer engagement or an incursion of armored troops across the border wall (which is rare).
The Eighth Legion
Yet another relatively standard legion, unit composition wise, this legion places and element on violence and shock and awe- if an enemy can be made to surrendur through brutality, it is this legion who will do the job. As such, discipline issues are less then good within this legion.
The Ninth Legion
This is another pretty all-rounder legion, although it contains significantly more infantry and is lighter then the other all-rounded legions. Its emphasis is also on close assaults, and this legion has a high portion of airborne capable units, even if they are not necessarily airborne units.
The Tenth Legion
A highly technical and strict legion, it specialises in defensive warfare or in sieges. As such, when the defensive lines are called upon, usually it is the 10th who is sent to hold the line. They thus have a significant emphasis on artillery and infantry, and less so on armor.
The Eleventh Legion
Similar to the Second, this legion also is led directly by the Emperor and not by any geographic or legion command. It contains many troops through which a legion requires in order to fully operate- as, these are being in a single legion loyal to the Emperor, they ensure any legion who goes rogue will do so without support. As such, the 11th contains special troops, medical, logistical, pioneer, engineer, volunteer, para-military, Non-legion specific training, military police, administrative, and ceremonial units. It also contains the nations Gendarme, and other things that do not fit into the legions such as monastical or knightly orders.
The Twelfth Legion
Similar to the 9th legion in structure, the 12th is also very infantry heavy. It is used much the same as the multiple generic legions, and is particularly bloodthirsty and used in close assaults.
The Thirteenth Legion
This unit is highly mechanized, and relies on its mobility. While it is overall generic in its goal and use, it is very fast and as such used where mechanized forces are required.
The Fourteenth Legion
A unique legion, it is intended to be entirely amphibious. Its role is to support the 17th legion, as the 14th contains units that will assist the lighter 17th as a fast response force while the rest of the legions arm themselves.
The Fifteenth Legion
Another fairly ordinary legion, the 15th has a culture of knowledge and desire to learn, as well as intelligence usage.
The Sixteenth Legion
The Sixteenth is long regarded as one of the most widely respected of the standard legions, in terms of the quality of its leaders. They are excellent, and the commander is typically considered the geographic commander of a region, even if other legions are also there. However, structurally, they have not much to set them apart from the other legions.
The Seventeenth Legion
This legion is contantly kept under orders, and constantly prepared to move. This is because they are the Empires fast response force. When a disaster, invasion, or war begins, it is the 17th who are sent to the warzone immediately. As such, they are entirely either airborne or amphibious capable and are kept at much higher readiness levels then the other legions.
The Eighteenth Legion
The Empires premier anti-guerilla warfare force, it is sent to places where insurgency or guerilla operations are likely. However, it still retains its abilities against conventional foes. It is heavily mechanized.
The Nineteenth Legion
This is a unique legion in that is specializes in fighting in terrain that is considered not good, in places of extreme wilderness, or in other operations that requires them to be very independent. They are very fast, and rely on many horse-moved units in order to maximise its mobility, and uses a minimal amount of electronics, even in its armoured vehicles and aircraft, meaning even in the losing side of an E-war campaign, the Empire will have a legion capable of taking to the field.
The Twentieth Legion
Last, and not least, the 20th. This legion is conventional, however contains many special operations units and is very much in the intelligence field, with agents and saboteurs everywhere.
The Penal Legions
Technically part of the 11th legions, but also jointly under the command of the prison service, the various Penal legions are where military prisoners are sent. These are not desireable- things such as clearing minefields by running through them is what they do. However, they also may pay for their crimes and return to their units, or find work with inquisitors.
The Militia
A collection of geographically sized company-battalion sized units, these are responsible for providing forces to man the defensive wall, as well as supporting Army troops in local environments, and providing manpower. They are filled from those who are done their drafted service, and have moved on from the military life.
The Navy of the Empire of Canada is massive, one of the largest in the world, although its doctrine of Hi-Lo means its ships are not always on par with those it may encounter at sea. It has a large air force, armsmen (marine corp), and 5 different fleets (on top of 5 larger commands), and is the primary method of warfare for the empire.
The Air force
In contrast to the Navy, or Legions, it is not huge. However the air force still has many planes, is fully capable of engaging of defeating any air force in the world with enough luck, and are fully capable of acting in a way that best supports the Legions, as outside of strategic command, air power is devoted to army or navy support. It also contains the nations Space Force.
